We are WE CARE, a community-based organization (CBO) committed to fostering inclusive and sustainable solutions for marginalized communities in Northern Kenya. Our mission is to empower vulnerable groups, including children with disabilities, while also addressing critical challenges like drought and harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Through education, advocacy, and economic empowerment, we strive to create opportunities for those who are often overlooked, enabling them to lead self-reliant, fulfilling lives. At WE CARE, we believe in the power of community-driven interventions. By partnering with local stakeholders and organizations, we work to break down societal barriers and offer tailored support where it’s needed most. From ensuring children with disabilities can access education to supporting families impacted by drought and advocating for the rights of girls at risk of FGM, our initiatives are designed to uplift and strengthen the communities we serve, fostering resilience and long-term change.

Personal Journey

Amos Waqo Abduba was born in 1998 in Chari Liche, Oromia Zone, Southern Ethiopia. Despite facing early challenges as a person living with visual impairment, he has demonstrated remarkable resilience and a strong commitment to education, leadership, and community empowerment.

Education

  • Primary education at Loglogo Integrated Primary School and St. Lucy Primary School for the Blind (completed 2016)
  • Secondary education at St. Lucy High School for the Blind (graduated 2020)
  • Computer studies at Machakos Institute for the Blind
  • Certificate in Project Management from Meru Institute of Business Studies (April 2023)
  • Certified as a Professional Mediator through mediation training with Suluhu
  • Diploma in Peace and Conflict Studies from Africa Nazarene University (graduated July 2025)
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Peace and Conflict Studies at Africa Nazarene University

Community Leadership

Amos is the Founder and Executive Director of We Care CBO, a community-based organization dedicated to supporting children with visual impairments and other disabilities in Isiolo, Marsabit, and Southern Ethiopia.

We Care CBO focuses on education, advocacy, awareness, and empowerment, and has successfully enrolled dozens of children with disabilities in school.

Through partnerships with well-wishers and organizations, the CBO has provided school supplies, food, blankets, mattresses, and advocacy support for marginalized children.

Leadership Roles

  • Representative of PWDs at the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), 2024–2028
  • PWDs Representative for the Upper Eastern Region (Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu) with the Kenya Red Cross Society, 2025–2028, where he also serves as a life member
  • Representative of PWDs at Isiolo Youth Assembly and the Oslo Centre, where he actively promotes inclusivity and participation of PWDs in governance and peace initiatives

Amos's leadership journey reflects his vision of creating a more inclusive society where children with disabilities have equal opportunities to learn, thrive, and achieve their dreams. His story is a powerful testimony of resilience, determination, and service to the community.

WeCare CBO Activities Update

Recent Medical Interventions and Success Stories

We Care CBO pupils after eye surgery

We are delighted to share some encouraging updates on the medical progress of the children under our care. Successful Eye Surgeries at Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Nairobi On 8th October 2025, three of our children — Adhi Wario, Ali Kushi, and Faith Mwendwa — underwent eye surgeries at Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. We are pleased to report that all three procedures were successful. The children are recovering well and experiencing significant improvements in their vision. Successful Brain Surgery at Kenyatta National Hospital On 2nd October 2025, Nasibo Iya Guyo underwent a brain surgery at Kenyatta National Hospital after being diagnosed with a cyst in the brain. We are grateful that the operation was successful and that Nasibo is recovering steadily, showing remarkable courage and resilience throughout her healing journey. We celebrate these important medical milestones and express our deepest gratitude to the dedicated medical teams, supporters, and partners who continue to make such life-changing interventions possible. Together, we are transforming lives and giving every child the chance to thrive.

WeCare CBO has successfully facilitated the enrollment of 50 pupils at Kambi ya Juu Integrated School. This group includes 20 students from Marsabit County and 30 from Isiolo County. We are proud to report that each of these students has completed the term successfully.

Furthermore, our team has identified an additional 70 children in both Isiolo and Marsabit counties who are still awaiting enrollment. These children, aged 5 to 13 years, are either completely blind or partially sighted. WeCare CBO is committed to supporting their educational journey and ensuring they receive the care and resources they need.

Support Our Cause

The total project budget is Ksh 6,690,000, allocated to support the education and well-being of children with disabilities, particularly those with visual impairments. It covers school fees, boarding essentials, Braille machines, and advocacy efforts for disability inclusion. This funding ensures both immediate support and long-term sustainability for the children and their families.

Recent Donations

We Care Kenya(CBO) is grateful for the generous donations we have received to support those in need. The Red Cross has kindly donated 100 bedsheets and 210 pairs of shoes, providing essential comfort and support to many. Additionally, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dalach Doyo Jaldesa for their contribution of 21 buckets, 5 sachets of tissue paper, 4 toothbrushes, and 4 tubes of Colgate (big toothbrush). These donations will go a long way in improving the well-being of our community members, and we sincerely thank our donors for their kindness and generosity.

Donation To Kambi Ya Juu Integrated School

We Care Kenya CBO recently made a generous donation of 10 desks to Kambi Ya Juu Integrated Primary School, specifically benefiting the visually impaired pupils at the institution. This initiative aligns with the organization’s ongoing commitment to promoting inclusive education and creating a more supportive learning environment for children with special needs. The desks are designed to enhance comfort and accessibility, enabling the pupils to focus better and participate more actively in their studies.

The official handover of the desks was conducted by Amos Wako, the Founder and Chairman of We Care Kenya CBO. During the event, he emphasized the CBO’s dedication to empowering marginalized groups through practical support and community-driven initiatives. The school administration, teachers, and pupils expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely contribution, which they described as a significant step toward equal learning opportunities for all.

Amos Wako

Amos Wako: Founder and Chairperson of WE CARE

Amos Wako is a passionate advocate for the rights and empowerment of persons with disabilities and the driving force behind WE CARE, a community-based organization (CBO) in Isiolo, Northern Kenya. Born with a visual impairment, Amos has experienced the challenges individuals with disabilities face in accessing education, employment, and social opportunities. His personal journey inspired the creation of WE CARE, with a mission to empower others facing similar barriers.

Despite the challenges, Amos pursued education and became a prominent IT specialist, showing that “disability is not a limit.” As chairperson of WE CARE, he leads various initiatives focused on inclusive education, community advocacy, and economic empowerment. Under his leadership, WE CARE works to ensure children with disabilities, especially those in marginalized areas, have access to education and support.

Amos also champions broader social causes like addressing drought, FGM, and poverty. His leadership fosters holistic, community-driven solutions that address both the immediate needs and long-term aspirations of vulnerable populations. Amos Wako remains a beacon of hope for children with disabilities in Northern Kenya, promoting lasting change and empowerment.
